INTERNEWSTIMES.COM – Canadian rapper K’naan, known for his hit song “Wavin’ Flag,” was charged with sexual assault in Quebec on Thursday. The charges stem from an alleged incident that occurred in Quebec City between July 16 and 17, 2010.
The Quebec Crown Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that an arrest warrant was issued last week for Keinan Abdi Warsame, K’naan’s real name. The 47-year-old rapper was in Quebec City at the time of the alleged assault to perform at the Festival d’été de Québec.

Warsame was not present at the court hearing on Thursday morning, and his lawyer appeared on his behalf. The preliminary inquiry in the case is scheduled for April 23, 2025.
K’naan, born in Somalia but raised in Toronto, currently resides in New York City. He rose to international fame with “Wavin’ Flag,” which was chosen as the promotional anthem for the 2010 FIFA World Cup by Coca-Cola. His 2023 track “Refugee” earned him the Recording Academy’s Best Song for Social Change Award.
The charges against K’naan have sent shockwaves through the music industry and beyond. While he has not yet commented publicly on the allegations, the case is expected to receive significant attention as it progresses through the legal system. (Red)
