INTERNEWSTIMES.COM – The Society of Irish American Lawyers (SOCIAL) is excited to announce their annual scholarship program, offering a $2,500 award to a deserving student of Irish descent residing in Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, or Orange Counties.

High school juniors and seniors are eligible to apply, with a deadline of December 1, 2024. The scholarship recognizes academic excellence, community involvement, and a commitment to Irish heritage.
Last year’s recipient, Ann Gombiner, a graduate of New Rochelle High School, exemplifies the qualities SOCIAL seeks in their scholarship winners. Ann, a standout student, achieved Salutatorian honors, ranking second out of 739 students in her graduating class. She also earned a National Merit Commendation and was an AP Scholar with Distinction.
Beyond her academic achievements, Ann demonstrated a strong commitment to community service. She spearheaded an intergenerational social group, connecting high school students with local older adults through letter writing and monthly social gatherings.
Ann’s dedication to her community and academic excellence earned her a place at Harvard University.
SOCIAL, founded in 2019, is a vibrant group of attorneys and judges within the 9th Judicial District of New York. The organization is dedicated to fostering Irish traditions and culture among its members while promoting a sense of community within the legal profession.
The scholarship winner will be announced in the spring and will be recognized at SOCIAL’s annual March gala.
