INTERNEWSTIMES.COM – The recent discovery of the body of eight-year-old Narin Guran, who had been missing for weeks, has sent shockwaves through Turkey and brought to light a disturbing reality: the country faces a serious child abuse crisis.

Narin’s death sparked widespread outrage, with many criticizing the lack of transparency and preventative measures regarding child protection. The Turkish Child Rights Center (FISA) reports that at least 64 children have been killed in the past 2.5 years, many due to domestic violence. However, official data on missing or murdered children hasn’t been published since 2016.
Experts and activists accuse the Turkish government of lacking transparency and failing to implement adequate child protection policies. They are calling for systematic data collection and public disclosure of information concerning missing children.
“To create political solutions for this problem, we need data,” says Ezgi Koman of FISA. “If they have the data but keep it secret, it means they don’t want to be held accountable.”
Narin’s case serves as a stark reminder that child abuse in Turkey is a serious issue demanding immediate attention from the government and society. (Red)
