INTERNEWSTIMES.COM – North Carolina’s Republican gubernatorial candidate, Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson, was hospitalized on Friday evening after sustaining second-degree burns at a campaign event in Mount Airy.

The incident occurred at the Mayberry Truck Show, according to Robinson’s campaign. Mike Lonergan, the campaign’s communications director, confirmed that Robinson was treated at Northern Regional Hospital and is currently in good spirits. He is expected to resume campaigning as scheduled on Saturday morning.
Robinson’s campaign has been rocked by controversy in recent weeks following allegations that he posted inflammatory comments on a pornography website over a decade ago. Robinson has vehemently denied the accusations, labeling them “salacious tabloid lies.”
The controversy has led to a wave of departures from Robinson’s campaign team. Several key staffers, including general consultant and senior advisor Conrad Pogorzelski, III; campaign manager Chris Rodriguez; finance director Heather Whillier; and deputy campaign manager Jason Rizk, have stepped down in the wake of the allegations.
Robinson’s recovery and the impact of the recent controversy on his campaign remain to be seen. (Red)
