INTERNEWSTIMES.COM – Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has declared five days of mourning in Iran following the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Lebanon. Khamenei described Nasrallah as a “martyr” and a “path and a school of thought” that would continue.

The Israeli military claimed that Nasrallah was targeted while he was “commanding more imminent attacks” and that he had “the blood of thousands… on his hands.” They also claimed that several other Hezbollah commanders were killed in the strike.
There are fears that the strike could escalate tensions in the region, leading to a wider conflict. While Iranian officials have not explicitly vowed to retaliate for the strikes, they have urged Muslims to support Hezbollah and have been in contact with allies to determine their next steps.
The strike has damaged Iran’s reputation among its allies, and Iran may seek to retaliate in order to save face. This could involve coordinated attacks from allied groups in Iraq, Yemen, or a direct Iranian strike on Israel. (RED)
