INTERNEWSTIMES.COM – Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has unveiled a prototype for the company’s highly anticipated augmented reality (AR) glasses, dubbed Orion. While still in development, the Orion glasses offer a tantalizing glimpse into a future where digital overlays seamlessly blend with our physical world.

The most striking feature of the Orion glasses is their surprisingly lightweight and comfortable design. CNBC’s Julia Boorstin, who had the chance to try them on, described the experience as “totally normal and very natural,” noting that the glasses felt no heavier than a standard pair of eyeglasses.
The Orion glasses utilize a groundbreaking technology called silicon carbide lenses, which enable them to project “holograms” that appear to float in the real world. Boorstin was able to interact with digital icons for apps like Instagram and Facebook, as well as a browser and video game, all superimposed on her surroundings.
The glasses also demonstrate object recognition capabilities, identifying real-world items and providing relevant information. For example, when Boorstin placed chia seeds on a table, the glasses projected a recipe for chia pudding.
While the Orion glasses are still in their early stages, Meta’s unveiling marks a significant step towards a future where AR technology could become an integral part of our daily lives. (Red)
