INTERNEWSTIMES.COM – A Russian glide bomb struck an apartment building in Ukraine’s second-largest city, Kharkiv, overnight, injuring 12 people, including a 3-year-old girl. The attack highlights the ongoing danger faced by civilians in Ukraine as the war enters its third year.

The edge of Kharkiv is located just 12 miles from the front line, making it a frequent target of aerial attacks. The city has been under constant threat since Russia’s invasion began in February 2022.
The attack comes amidst a wave of drone and missile strikes launched by both sides across the front line. The Ukrainian Air Force reported destroying 78 out of 105 Iranian-made Shahed drones launched by Russia overnight, while the Russian military claimed to have intercepted 113 Ukrainian drones.
Russia’s recent increased reliance on glide bombs, which are repurposed Soviet-era munitions fitted with wings and satellite guidance systems, has been making a significant impact on the battlefield. These weapons are cheap to produce and highly destructive.
Ukrainian border guards are working tirelessly to detect the Russian aircraft launching these glide bombs and issue warnings to communities in their line of fire. Colonel Maksym Balagura, commander of the unit, acknowledged the increasing sophistication of Russian tactics and the fear his soldiers face when a glide bomb deployment is detected.
“One can never underestimate the enemy,” he said, highlighting the ever-present danger posed by Russia’s ongoing military operations. (Red)
