INTERNEWSTIMES.COM – The Grand Slam of Curling season has kicked off with a fresh look and a renewed focus on fan engagement under the new ownership of The Curling Group. The series, acquired from Sportsnet in April, is poised to enter a new era with ambitious plans to revitalize the sport and expand its reach.

The most noticeable change for fans is the introduction of live online streaming for all Tier-1 games, addressing a long-standing desire for comprehensive coverage. This move, along with a new logo, refreshed website, and a dedicated podcast, signifies The Curling Group’s commitment to enhancing the fan experience.

The group, led by former PointsBet Canada chief commercial officer Nic Sulsky and Rumble Gaming founder Mike Cotton, has already secured $5 million US in seed funding to fuel their vision of taking curling to new heights. This investment will be directed towards strategic initiatives, innovative technologies, and content production aimed at expanding the sport’s global appeal.

While the initial launch of live streaming encountered some technical hiccups, The Curling Group is committed to ironing out these issues and delivering a seamless viewing experience. The group also plans to introduce live music and entertainment at Slam venues, creating a more immersive and engaging atmosphere for fans.

The Grand Slam of Curling remains a popular attraction for seasoned curling enthusiasts, but The Curling Group’s focus on innovation and fan engagement is aimed at attracting a wider audience, particularly younger generations. With a five-person board of directors, including former Bell Media president Maryann Turcke as chair, the group is well-equipped to navigate this exciting new chapter in the sport’s history.

The opening games of the season have showcased the talent and competitive spirit of top teams, with Rachel Homan, Matt Dunstone, and Niklas Edin among the early standouts. As the season progresses, fans can expect more exciting matches and innovative initiatives from The Curling Group, who are determined to make the Grand Slam of Curling a truly global phenomenon.
