INTERNEWSTIMES.COM – The Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), a highly regarded event in South Korea, has faced significant challenges amidst a turbulent global landscape for film festivals.
Last summer, the festival experienced a period of management turmoil, with several founders and top executives resigning. This led to a period of instability, but BIFF managed to appoint interim leaders and achieve a level of stability for its October 2023 edition.

In an effort to regain momentum, BIFF took several key steps:
– New Leadership: Veteran filmmaker Park Kwang-su, known for his long-standing ties to the festival, was appointed as chairman.
– Industry Expertise: Ellen Y.D. Kim, an industry veteran with experience at both BIFF and the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, was appointed to head the festival’s industry platform, the Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM).
These appointments reflect BIFF’s commitment to navigating the current challenges and ensuring the festival’s continued success. The festival is now focused on rebuilding its leadership structure and strengthening its position within the global film industry. (Red)
