INTERNEWSTIMES.COM – The days of frustratingly slow and unreliable airplane Wi-Fi are numbered, according to Air New Zealand CEO Greg Foran. The airline is partnering with SpaceX’s Starlink to bring high-speed internet to its fleet, promising a game-changer for passengers.

While initial plans called for Starlink to be installed on two domestic aircraft by the end of 2024, Foran announced that the trials have been pushed back to 2025. The airline is eager to test the service on both a turbo prop and a jet aircraft before making a wider rollout decision.
Air New Zealand isn’t alone in embracing Starlink. United Airlines has already signed a major deal to equip its entire fleet of over 1,000 planes with the satellite internet service. Testing for United is set to begin in 2025.
Starlink’s network of 6,000 satellites promises to revolutionize in-flight connectivity, offering passengers the ability to stream movies, send instant messages, and even engage in online gaming and e-commerce without interruption.
Both Air New Zealand and United Airlines have confirmed that Starlink services will be provided to passengers free of charge, either included in airfare or without additional purchase.
The growing adoption of Starlink by major airlines highlights the increasing demand for reliable and fast internet access during travel. With airlines recognizing the value of offering this service to enhance passenger experience, Starlink is poised to become the go-to internet provider in the skies. (Red)
