INTERNEWSTIMES.COM – Vienna, Austria – Austria is facing a wave of outrage after a song with Nazi ties was sung at the funeral of a former FPÖ politician in Vienna on the eve of parliamentary elections. The song, “Wenn alle untreu werden” (When all become unfaithful), dates back to 1814 but was glorified during the Nazi era.

Three prominent members of the far-right Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ), Martin Graf, Harald Stefan, and Norbert Nemeth, were present at the funeral. The incident has been condemned by political parties across the spectrum, with the FPÖ facing accusations of right-wing extremism.
The Jewish Students’ Union of Austria reported the incident to prosecutors, calling it an “alarm signal for Austria.” The FPÖ has denied any involvement in the singing of the song, claiming that it had no influence over the private funeral.
The controversy comes at a sensitive time in Austria, with the FPÖ leading in opinion polls ahead of the elections. The incident has reignited concerns about the presence of far-right sentiment in Austria and the need to combat any glorification of Nazi ideology. (Red)
